Breathable paint is a type of paint for interiors designed to have greater resistance to humidity than other types of paint.
Popular for its breathability and for being easy to apply, it is ideal for DIY projects and for all those instances in which good breathability is preferable to a high level of washability, since this kind of water-based paint helps humidity pass through the walls into the room.

Compared to traditional paint, this kind of water-based paint is like a net with a wider mesh. This lets water vapour go through the paint film, as if it were breathing. This is why we use this term.
Despite what people usually think, however, it is not entirely suitable for very humid environments; in fact, it lets moisture (or water vapour) pass through substrates and go outside but does not prevent the reverse process and lets moisture penetrate walls.
The constant humidity retained by substrates can thus favour the formation of mould with all the various consequences it has for health and the structural damage.
A product with breathability characteristics still guarantees a quality formulation of the product, which makes it preferable to the now obsolete water-based tempera paint.
